在大山里，你是
一支古老而又古老的歌

是草坪上一只爱打闹的小羊

那个传统的雕像

To a Mountain Village Young Girl

In the depths of the mountain, you are
an ancient song
   with a syncopated tone
and a naughty kid in the meadow
All have changed
only the brook keeps streaming silently as before

You used to be that traditional statue
    in front of the door of your forefathers
and the girl weaver leading the sun

More than one thousand times
you have carried a water basket to fetch water along that trail
    Your lover knows
there is your eternal looking in the well
Now you are playing the golden Kouxian*
    while thinking of the small bus station
outside the mountain
    You are told that from that small station
    one can go into a new world

In the summer night with flower fragrance floating
you become the free captain of that haystack
No one knows where the ship you drive will go
but can only see your long hair floating in the night
